Vampire Books - Twilight & Dead Until Dark (True Blood) & More
66They're pale, nocturnal, want to drink your blood, they are technically dead, and yet we find them so sexy. If you haven’t guessed by now I’m talking about Vampires! They’ve been talked about for centuries and whatever your age, they have been popularized over the years by books & movies such as Dracula, The Lost Boys, Interview with a Vampire, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the list goes on. We are infatuated with ghost footage, aliens and vampires. Always have and always will be.
Today is no different. Today we seem to be going through a Vampire craze and it’s because of 2 vampire series, Twilight and Dead Until Dark (HBO TV show True Blood
is based on this book). Both are very captivating yet very different vampire books. One is a teen vampire love story filled with romance, heartache and suspense. The other, well, it’s the adult version of a vampire love story mixed in with a lot of death, action, and sex, pretty much what every person over the age of 21 wants in a book.
I’m not going to get into all the details about the books because really you should just go out and read them. They are both great and chances are if you are reading this you dig vampires anyway. The details I am going to talk about are the main vampire men in these books. Sure, this means that any straight man will probably stop reading this right about……..now. But for those of you that continue reading be prepared to get your vampire drool on. Yes, I said vampire drool. Now, obviously in a vampire book one of the best things about it is you get to imagine what they look like, but here I’m going to post a few pictures of their on screen “characters” because really, who needs to imagine anything after seeing these pictures.
Edward Cullen – Twilight - Vampire
Edward isn’t your typical vampire. He is faster than most vampires and he can hear what other people are thinking, other than Bella the human girl he falls in love with, but were not here to talk about her. He was born in 1901 and was transformed into a vampire in 1918 so he has the body of a 17 year old boy. Ok, how do I win that man lottery? He is kind and acts like a teenager however in many ways you can see his maturity. He has a sense of morality that does not allow him to feed off of humans, but rather hunt for animals. His relationship with Bella really captivates you and is what sucks you in. He’s definitely every teenage girls dream “guy”.
Bill Compton – Dead until Dark (True Blood) – Vampire
Bill Compton, sometimes referred to as “Vampire Bill” is a refined, old fashioned southern gentleman and more your traditional vampire. His goal is to live among the humans and co-exist, to do right by vampires and humans. Bill on occasion, when pressured, drinks human blood however prefers to drink True Blood which is a synthetic blood. He is very quick and extremely strong. He was born in 1840 and was made a vampire in 1870. He has a steamy relationship with Sookie Stackhouse but again, we are not here to talk about the ladies.
Both of these characters drew me into these vampire books more and more. They are everything you’d want a man to be at those specific ages in your life, minus the blood sucking and not going out in the sunlight, those are kind of a buzz kill. Im willing to forgive all that though. Twilight and Dead until Dark are proof that the vampire phenomenon will never go away. Even though Edward and Bill are so different in ages and mannerisms they bring an element of thrill that I believe most women seek and which is why we love vampires so much. You get the good and the bad, and when you get tired of the bad just wait until dawn and tell him to go sleep in his coffin!
So go read these great vampire books, watch the movie/show and let me know what you think!!
And, if you love Twilight you should see how Bella looks as a vampire!

I love the contrast between Twilight and True Blood. One is so innocent and the so....not. Great article! Thanks for sharing!
I read the first book of Twilight, mainly because my daughter raved about it. It's not a bad story, but I was so disappointed when I saw Edward on the big screen, he is nothing like the Ed in my head ;-)
True Blood Rocks and eats Twilight for breakfast...great hub
I haven't got into either as I just haven't had the time. Which one shall i go for first?
I used to love "Interview with a Vampire" when I was a kid, though in retrospect it probably wasn't the best thing for me to be watching
Very cool my kind of hub :)
Enjoyed your hub! Thanks

My wife is a huge vampire genre reader. We must have hundreds of vampire books. Personally, I don't get it, but I understand we all like what we like. I sent her a links to this hub.
